Umar Ahmad was born in Rawalpindi, Pakistan. He did his Bachelors of Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of Engineering & Technology (UET) Taxila, Pakistan in 2009. After working for couple of years in industry he moved to Germany in 2012 to pursue higher studies. He studied for one year at IMTEK, Department of Microsystems at the University of Freiburg, Germany. In 2013, he was awarded the prestigious EIT Digital Master school scholarship and moved to the Technical University of Berlin to avail it. EIT Digital Masters program is a double degree program. He moved to the Technical University of Eindhoven, The Netherlands for the second year of master studies and also studied at the University of Twente, Enschede, The Netherlands. He did his master thesis with LocusPositioning/Pervasive Systems Research Group at Uni Twente in the Internet of Things application area of Indoor Localization. After successful completion of the EIT Digital Masters program, he graduated with Master of Science degree in Embedded Systems from Technical University of Eindhoven and Master of Science degree in Innovation in Information & Communication Technology from Technical University of Berlin in 2015.

He moved back to Pakistan at the end of 2015 and taught at various universities for one and a half year. In December 2016, He was awarded the prestigious Marie-Curie Fellowship in the ACROSSING project and joined ACTLab (at that time) at University of Passau in March 2017. His research interests are in the application of Wearable IoT in the Health Care & Sports Science sector.
